Dental treatment for special patients abroad at Asensio Advanced Dentistry in Valencia is adapted to each patient’s individual medical, psychological and physical circumstances. Dr. Lucía Asensio Romero and the full Asensio team have extensive experience treating patients whose medical conditions, medications or anxiety require a modified clinical approach.

A special patient is anyone whose systemic condition, medication, disability or psychological state requires treatment to be planned and delivered differently from a standard case. At Asensio, every special patient assessment begins with a thorough review of all relevant factors before any treatment is prescribed — ensuring safety, comfort and the best possible clinical outcome.

The first consultation is completely free. Call us on 0800 048 8058 or email office@dentalasensio.co.uk to discuss your case.

Factors assessed in special patient treatment planning

Factor What is assessed
Systemic conditions Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer treatment, immunosuppression, epilepsy and other conditions affecting dental treatment
Medications Drugs affecting treatment — anticoagulants, bisphosphonates, immunosuppressants; allergies to anaesthetics or other substances
Psychological factors Dental anxiety or phobia, emotional instability, cognitive impairment — sedation options assessed where appropriate
Physical disability Mobility needs, accessibility requirements — our clinic at Avenida del Cid 11 has full disabled access
Toxic habits Tobacco and alcohol consumption affecting healing, periodontal health and implant outcomes

Conscious sedation for anxious patients

For patients with dental anxiety or phobia, conscious sedation — IV sedation or nitrous oxide — is available for any treatment at Asensio. Sedation is administered and monitored by our anaesthesiologist throughout. It produces deep relaxation, enhanced pain control and partial amnesia of the procedure, breaking the cycle of dental avoidance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get dental implants if I have a systemic condition?

Many systemic conditions do not preclude implant treatment — they require more careful planning and, in some cases, medical clearance before proceeding. Conditions such as controlled diabetes, osteoporosis and previous bisphosphonate treatment are assessed individually. See our dental implants abroad guide for more detail.

What if I am taking anticoagulant medication?

Anticoagulant medication requires careful management around surgical procedures. At Asensio, we work with your GP or specialist to ensure safe treatment — this will be discussed in detail at the free consultation before any treatment is planned.

Is conscious sedation available for all treatments?

Yes — conscious sedation at Asensio is available for any dental treatment including implants, extractions, periodontal treatment and cosmetic procedures. Suitability is assessed at the free consultation.
